But it’s not without eventual problems, just like any home cooling solution would run into.

With air conditioning in Oviedo, FL, there are four major issues that central AC runs into specific (though not exclusive) to our climate. Let’s walk you through these issues so you can troubleshoot for yourself, and of course, you can always give us a call if troubleshooting doesn’t do the trick.

Your Evaporator Coils Keep Freezing

In an air conditioner, evaporator coils fill with refrigerant and rely on the warm air being pulled in around the exterior of the coils to continue to operate. If there’s an issue with the airflow, your coils can freeze up.

Airflow problems are usually resolved by changing out your old dirty air filter at the air intake point inside your home. Dirty, dusty filters mean less air is being sucked in and hitting your evaporator coils.

Get in the habit of changing out your air filter every 30 to 90 days and you’ll be able to avoid this problem altogether. While dust can still form inside your air conditioner, it will be a slow build if you keep switching out the filter.

Your Condenser Coils Are Dirty

I know, I know: more coils to worry about. These coils are located in the cabinet and aren’t as affected by airflow. Dust builds on the coils over time and from the way dirt and debris travel outdoors. It’s something that’s unavoidable.

When your condenser coils are dirty, the dirt forms a coat that insulates them. Heat transfer becomes more difficult, and your air conditioner has to work so much harder just to do its job when there’s debris insulating it.

Duct Leaks

Your duct is made to help bring forced air from the air conditioner to each individual room. But when those ducts have cuts or leaks in them, the cold air you just paid for leaks into your attic instead. It takes longer to cool your rooms, and you have to run your air conditioner for longer.

It doesn’t take long for this to rack up and cost you additional money every month. Fortunately, the fix is something that you only need to do once every five to ten years: duct sealing. A professional seals your ducts, and you’re good to go for a long time.

Thermostat Calibration Issues

You want your air conditioner to kick on at a certain temperature. If the thermostat has the wrong temperature and thinks it’s colder than it is, your air conditioner isn’t going to reach your desired temperature.

Your thermostat may just need to be calibrated. This can be a DIY fix if you have an all-digital model and the instruction manual, although a technician can fine-tune it for you as well.

Help Your Central AC Before it Runs Into Issues

These issues can pop up for anyone that has a central AC system. While maintenance can help you prevent them for longer, they happen to everyone at one point or another throughout the span of their central air conditioner’s lifetime. You have a trusted team of technicians waiting right here to help you with your central AC issues.

Contact us today to schedule central air conditioning services and maintain your central AC to its fullest extent.

Your air conditioner works hard, but things get in the way of it running properly.
