Is That Sound Coming From My AC?

Well, first it’s important to take some measures to ensure this noise is coming from your AC and not from somewhere else. Make sure the TV is off, the kids are quiet, and whatever other noise-making devices are off or asleep. If the noise you’re hearing can quite obviously still be heard, and you’re able to pinpoint it coming from your AC or your air ducts, then you’ve got a problem. Luckily, we have a solution!

AC noises are nothing new. Just like an old beater car or a computer that’s on its last legs, a machine will start creating noise when it runs into a problem. Air conditioners are just another system that will screech, grumble, clang, or hiss when there’s something clearly amiss. That’s why it’s important you have a professional around to provide HVAC service in Lake Mary, FL. Our team is experienced enough to handle whatever issue your system is running into.

The Different Noises Your System Can Make

We’re going to list off some of the most common noises an air conditioner can make. Keep in mind, however, that not every single noise will be covered in this list. There will be new ones, and depending on how unique your home is, you might encounter a noise that’s not on anyone’s list online. Regardless, when you call our team, we’ll get to the bottom of the issue and repair it quickly.

Bubbling and Hissing

Bubbling and hissing noises signify that your AC is struggling with a refrigerant leak. When it’s bubbling, air has gotten into the refrigerant line to create small bubbles that make this noise. When it’s hissing, the refrigerant gas is quickly leaking from the system causing problems for the system internally. This problem should always be fixed so you don’t pay more in increased energy costs and repair needs down the line.

Rattling and Clanging

Sometimes a part can become loose inside your air conditioner, like a screw or a casing. This can often lead to rattling, clanging, or other banging noises that signify the part bouncing around inside the system. While it could seem harmless at first, this banging will eventually compound into a more problematic issue down the line. That screw will bump into a coil and now you’re in the ballpark of a seriously expensive repair.

Squealing

A squealing noise, just like how you’d expect one in a car, can signify a belt that’s started fraying and needs replacement. This can be a blower motor belt or some other component that needs to be fixed by professionals.

Shrieking

Shrieking is never a good sign. Often the loudest and most uncomfortable noise an air conditioner can make, it signifies a whole slew of problems that can very quickly lead to a breakdown. Call us immediately if you hear your system shriek.

Buzzing

A buzzing system is suffering from electrical problems usually. This can be a quick fix if it’s just the system’s contactor, or it could be more complex if it has to do with your home’s energy system. Either way, we can help.
