An Air Conditioner Requires This One Thing

As the summer heat is on its way and we’re living our best lives here in Florida, there’s a very important topic that we need to cover. Your home is going to depend very heavily on air conditioning in Orlando, FL, so the more we can help you achieve peak performance and high efficiency, the happier we’ll be.

Your air conditioner isn’t going to work very well if all the conditioned air it creates ends up leaking through ductwork, broken windows, open doors, or skylights. This is something we see every year: a homeowner with a brand-new air conditioning system that is run into the ground due to unsuspecting air leaks all over the home.

Insulation is key, and no air conditioner is going to run efficiently without it. While homes might be less insulated here because of our mild winters, it’s still an important task that we want to help you with.

Insulation Is the Key to a Comfortable Home

Insulation is a word that we hear a lot of HVAC professionals talk about in regards to heating, but not as often when it comes to cooling. In fact, the insulation of your home is just as important for an air conditioner as it is for a furnace. You need to keep your conditioned air inside, and insulation is going to help you do that.

We’re not talking about putting materials on your walls or any large-scale projects. We’re talking about some minor repairs and best practices that can help you seal the leaks in your home and keep conditioned air in.

Fix Any Broken Windows

Windows in your home are made out of glass panes. Each pane is going to stop heat from traveling through the glass. That’s why double-pane windows are so powerful at keeping temperatures regulated indoors, they’ve got two layers of glass to help insulate your home.

But more importantly than upgrading your windows is repairing the broken ones! If you’ve got any holes or cracks in your windows, especially in basement windows or areas that you pay less attention to, they’re going to lead your conditioned air to leak out. Get these windows fixed for better home efficiency!

Keep Doors Closed and Insulated When Possible

Some homeowners like to swing the door open and let the sun and fresh air in. While this does feel good and it can be amazing to get outside every day, that also lets your conditioned air out. It’s a good idea to keep the cool air inside and only open the door when you’re going outdoors. This can save you money in the long run and also help build up great, energy-efficient habits!

Curtains Can Be Helpful Against Sunlight

Sunlight might look beautiful but it can steadily increase the temperature in your home, especially if you don’t have specific glass windows to help block the encroaching heat. Use your blinds or curtains to block out the sun during the day so that your air conditioner can have an easier time cooling the space in your home and keeping your family comfortable.
